Put 85 groundsmen from 17 nationalities together, and you get a melting pot of different perspectives, ideas, and visions. In two intense days the Masterclass group of 2023 enjoyed inspiring presentations by highly regarded speakers, impressive venue tours, and time to connect with groundsmanagers from all over the world.
Day one: Allianz Stadium
Allianz Arena has been a front runner in sustainable pitch management long before the topic made the headlines. As an early adopter of energy efficient LED technology, Allianz Arena was the perfect venue to learn more about responsible pitch management. After presentations from Nick Pappas – Field Director at National Football League, Joachim Baur – Head of Stadium & Infrastructure at Deutsche Fussball League and Lee Guerriero – Pitch and Technology Specialist at UEFA, interactive sessions, and an impressive venue tour it was time for the group to meet up over a nice dinner and a drink.
Day two: FC Bayern Campus & WWK Arena
Day two started off at the FC Bayern Campus, where the group toured the facilities where young talent develops and dreams of making the FC Bayern Munich first team. A bus ride took us to WWK Arena, home of Bundesliga 1. club FC Augsburg. Again, the group toured the venue, and got a sneak preview of exciting innovations coming up. We ended the day with lunch and a closing presentation.
